Duccio Canestrini - Professor in the anthropology of tourism

Professor in the anthropology of tourism

Anthropologist and journalist, a professor in the anthropology of tourism degree course in tourism science in the Campus Foundation of Lucca (University of Pisa). He is an advocate of an original “pop anthropology”, that is popular in content and communication, distinctly multimedia. He was one of the first in Italy to deal with tourism from an anthropological perspective, and developed the concept of homo turisticus as a key to interpreting human behaviour in other territories, establishing the ethics of encounters, with particular interest in the new rites of modernity.

A correspondent of geographical magazine “Airone”, documentary maker and writer, he has alternated publication and scientific research. His favourite areas of study include the cultural use of the body, relations between man and his environment, and new technologies.

Duccio Canestrini is the author of several successful books published by Italy’s leading publishers, including: Antropop La tribù globale [Anthropop, the global tribe] (Bollati Boringhieri, Turin 2014), Non sparate sul turista [Don’t shoot the tourist] (Bollati Boringhieri, Turin 2004), Andare a quel paese [Going to that country] (Feltrinelli, Milan 2003) and Trofei di viaggio [Travel trophies] (Bollati Boringhieri, Turin 2001).
